Spring 2019 update from the Flying Tortuga Brothers...

Hi there-

Carl here to give you an update on what we are working on during late spring and summer of 2019.  The Flying Tortuga Brothers Podcast is up and running with a couple of episodes published.  The plan is to publish a new episode every two weeks.  The goal of the podcast and this site is to document the process of preparing and applying to the National Parks Arts Foundation for the September 2020 Artist in residence on Loggerhead Key in the Dry Tortugas.  in Each episode we will talk about the work we are currently creating and interview other artists who have done the Loggerhead residency in the past to get a sense of what life off the grid for a month creating art is actually like.  Besides the podcast we are both keeping busy with our art.  I am heading to the Pacific North West in June to meet up with photographer Shawn Moss to photograph the landscapes and vista of Oregon and Washington on a two week camping trip.  Shannon is continuing to paint and write fo a book project he is developing.  Have a great week and look for the next podcast to drop soon.

Welcome to the Flying Tortuga Brothers blog!

Carl and Shannon will use this space along with their podcast to share stories about applying to the National Parks Arts Foundation for an artists residency on Loggerhead Key in September 2020.  They were not selected for 2019 but are even more determined to be selected for 2020. The blog and podcast will also be the way to check in on their adventure of a month on an isolated island 90 miles west of Key West.  Assuming they get selected and can occasionally get signal off the island.  This is where the professor from Gilligan's Island would come in handy.  So join us on the adventure!
